WHAT IS A STARTER?

What is a wild yeast sourdough starter?

Simply put, it is the secret sauce that makes your sourdough bread rise!

What is it made from?

It should ideally be made from organic flour and filtered water.

How do I make it?

the simplest way to create your very own wild yeast sourdough starter is to combine flour and water and wait patiently!

THE KEY POINTS

Use Organic Flour: when you use organic flour to make your wild yeast starter you will get a better result!

Why? because most of the bran is still in the grain & you’re feeding the yeasts that are already there.

In addition, organic flour hasn’t been treated with chemicals or pesticides and generally doesn’t go through a bleaching process. It’s simple really, the better the flour, the better the bread.

Wild Yeast is the key to your sourdough starter – wild yeast lives everywhere, in the flour, in the air & will adapt to whatever environment it is in; picking up any yeasts in the vicinity, resulting in a starter unique to your home!

Commercial Yeast has replaced wild yeast in baking because it works much faster & is therefore economically more viable to work with to produce bread on a mass scale.

The Health Benefits: naturally occurring wild yeast starters (saccharomyces exiguus) proof & ferment your bread more slowly giving you all the health benefits, in comparison to commercial yeast - which offers none of these health benefits

If You Want a Head Start you can buy a dried starter from me! This will help to get you baking faster! You can then add it in to your own starter - once its established, to strengthen it!
